Dear Journal,
I’m having a Board Game Tournament because I’m a superhero! Well, it’s true. I have been told that I have superpowers. My superpower is problem-solving. I’m a 3rd-grade Professional Problem Solver. I solve problems using my magnifying glass. Instead of using the magnifying glass to focus on a problem and make it really big, I use it to focus on myself. That way I become big and the problem I have to solve becomes small! Cool, right?
One way I learned how to become a Professional Problem Solver was by playing board games. Yes, board games! My favorite game of all is Connect Four. Board games help you learn how to think critically, use strategy, and make decisions. This summer I want to show other kids how to be Professional Problem Solvers using board games…and I need help.
In July, I will host four Critical Thinkers Board Game Tournament for kids ages 8-12. A final community tournament will take place the first Saturday of August during the Restoring The Neighbor Back to the Hood Backpack Festival. The winners of each tournament will be “crowned” a Professional Problem Solver, receive their own board game, a certificate and cash/gift card prize.
I want every kid in Detroit to get ready for the Board Game Tournament because this is going to be the biggest event of the summer. Who is the best Connect Four player in the city? I can’t wait to find out!

Even though I’m a 3rd –grade Professional Problem Solver, all the details need to be discussed with an adult. (Trust me, she’s very capable.) For all questions, inquiries, and ways you can support, please contact:
